Three By Five takes this step one giant leap forward - it brings 3 dimensional structure and a graphical interface to the venerable outline. Three By Five's unique "index cards tacked on the wall" interface will let you see your ideas in a whole new way. Incorporating advanced word processing features and information management tools, Three By Five combines and updates both the outline and the old familiar bulletin board.
What is Three By Five?
Three By Five is a unique program that let's you develop ideas, business plans, research notes or story ideas by jotting your thoughts on index cards that are literally tacked onto your computer screen. This allows you to think creatively without worrying about where each piece of information will end up. As your thoughts become more fleshed out, the cards can be grouped, sorted, categorized and otherwise moved, sized and shifted to take your random thoughts and give them some meaningful order.
The power of the computer provides Three By Five with the ability to sort, categorize and manipulate your ideas in ways that would be difficult using physical cards. For example, a card can be a member of one or more categories and can be located, sorted, searched or printed as a member of one or more of these groupings. Additionally, cards can consist of either text, pictures or even Quicktime‚Ñ¢ movies, thereby providing capabilities above and beyond those of your wall.
Combined with this visual corkboard is a full-function outliner, which provides a more traditional view of the same information. The outline window contains features such as multi-levels, collapse and expand, show and hide detail, and much more. Any changes made in one window are immediately reflected in the other window. In this way, you can work in the view that you are most comfortable with and switch to the other view if you choose.
Finally, Three By Five contains a number of different ways to print out your information. Not only can it print out the outline or the board (as you see it on the screen), but it is also compatible with Avery 3 x 5 laser-perfed index card stock. So, when your presentation, speech or research notes have been completed and organized, you can print them right out on ready-to-go index cards.
Using this Demo
This demo version of Three By Five is, for the most part, fully functional. The only features that have been completely disabled are the Spell-checker, the Thesaurus and import/export. In addition, although the demo program will save cards that you enter, it is limited to a total of ten cards per file. This should allow you to make a thorough test of Three By Five and its features. Finally, when printing any reports, the words "Three By Five Demo" will appear on each printed page.
